Individual Development Plan – (IDP) helps graduate students and postdoctoral researchers: assess current skills, interests, and strengths; make a plan for developing skills to meet academic and professional goals; and communicate with supervisors, advisors, and mentors about evolving goals and related skills.

Discover PD–  it is an online guide that helps UW-Madison graduate students advance their academic and professional goals.

For Faculty Series – consists of in-person and online events and resources designed for graduate students and postdocs interested in continuing their careers in academia.

The Delta Program – The Delta Program in Research, Teaching, and Learning engages graduate students and postdocs in professional development in teaching, mentoring, outreach, and advising.

Beyond Graduate School is a career training platform designed specifically for master’s students. You have access to this platform with unique curriculum, information, and strategies you need to confidently apply for jobs.

Beyond the Professoriate is a Career Training Platform helps graduate students, postdocs, and PhDs successfully transition into academic or nonacademic careers.

NCFDD is an independent professional development, training, and mentoring community for faculty members, postdocs, and graduate students. It provides online career development and mentoring resources in a ready-to-access format that you can view anytime.

Wiscience offers courses and programs that are designed to enhance STEM students’ Wisconsin Experience by engaging them in meaningful learning experiences within and beyond the classroom. They provide grad students with courses, and professional development opportunities in teaching, community engagement, and research.

The Graduate school has a huge list of other professional development resources including networking, mentorship, and much more.

Additional Campus Resources

Writing Center– They have workshops to enhance a student’s academic writing and a self-paced, in-depth guide to academic and professional writing. Additionally, a micro-course from the UW Libraries introduces you to copyright and fair use for your projects.

Data Science Hub–  they provide workshops to help students learn data analysis skills, and they have a  list of data science resources on campus.

Design Lab–  they provide resources, workshops, and tips to learn how to work effectively with digital media, including presentation slides, infographics, webpages, video, and audio. Here are some resources to learn how to use different software, there are classes offered by Software Training for Students or through LinkedIn Learning.

 Postdoc, Postgrad, and Research Intern at UW-Madison – UW-Madison has its own job board for postdoc, post grad, and research intern positions.

Nelson Environmental job board – environmental jobs in Madison as well as jobs throughout the country.

The International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) is a scientific organization made up of researchers studying the Laurentian Great Lakes, other large lakes of the world, and their watersheds, as well as those with an interest in such research. There is a job board on their site.

HigherEdjobs has a job search engine with various positions in higher education. You can filter by type of institution, location and more.

USAjobs – federal government jobs that you may be eligible for.

Texas A&M Natural Resources Job Board -another job board the positions aren’t only in Texas. They have a large variety of research and non -research based positions.

AGU Career Center– it has various job opportunities in areas including atmospheric sciences, biogeosciences, global environmental change, hydrology, ocean science and much more.
